Coach Rafael

Rafael started his journey into CrossFit in the summer of 2013. He was majoring in Kinesiology at Concordia University and needed an internship to complete his degree. Since Rafael’s goal is to become a physical therapist, he requested an internship with Tillman Physical Therapy & Sports Training Center, Inc. Little did he know at the time, this would change his fitness forever.

Growing up, Rafael was a competitive soccer player. He loved the family aspect and community that a team created. Teammates give each other relentless effort to help each other out however they can and this has carried over into all other aspects of his life.

When the internship began, Rafael was eager to try his first CrossFit class. He had always been a gym rat, but he was tired of the typical routines. Variety happened only when he read about a new program in muscle magazines. He found out very quickly that this was not the case with CrossFit. Every day coming into a workout and not knowing what to expect fueled an endless fire of curiosity and excitement to see what he would be doing that day. The movements were completely different from anything he had experienced before. They required skill, finesse and functional strength. The technical aspects forced Rafael to work on his mobility in order to master the movements.ing up, Rafael was a competitive soccer player. As a physical therapy technician it was obvious that Raf took great joy in learning, combining and utilizing therapeutic techniques combined with CrossFit modalities to help others hit new athletic levels.  During this time,  Rafael decided to pursue his CrossFit Level 1 and become a CrossFit Coach with CrossFit Cedar Park.

We are blessed to have Rafael’s passion for learning, technical movements and his education. Rafael has worked with our Baseline class that has many modified master clients, he coaches our kids and teens classes and also Group CrossFit Classes. He is a great communicator and is willing to go above and beyond. Researching when a client needs specific modifications, learning proper mobility as a physical therapy technician and continuing his education as he pursues going to Physical Therapy school.
