Meet Alice Hulsey

We love our clients at CrossFit Cedar Park, and we want all of you to know of each other. Whether you attend the 5:15am class or once a week for Open Gym, we hope these introductions give you a familiar face next time you walk in to workout with us!

Alice Hulsey

1. When did you begin CrossFit?

“Officially started classes in August 2010. Won a free month at ladies night and haven’t quit yet. I did open gym on Saturday’s for about year before that.”
2. What attracted you to the CrossFit style of fitness?
“My daughter Kelley introduced me to CrossFit, her and (her fiance) Kevin. I had been going to the gym for a couple of years doing the same thing over and over. I ended up at Tillman Physical Therapy  for shoulder issues and they helped transition me into CrossFit. Heather made my PT session mini wods. (workout of the day.)”
3.What was it like doing the CrossFit workouts for the first few times?
“At first I couldn’t do a pushup. Nikki coached SuperStrong last week and reminded me about that, she did my original baseline. It was sad, I had to do ring rows or push ups on the wall. About 2 months after I started I had surgery on my left elbow, hoping to get it to straighten out. Once again PT at Tillman’s helped me out. It’s not perfect, may never be but I can do push ups now after I Do The Impossible 2.”
4. What inspired you to continue CrossFit?
“Seeing results at first made me stay. Now I am doing things I never thought I could do. I ran a 5K in March and can deadlift 295# (that still amazes me). Mostly my self confidence has really improved.
5. What do you enjoy most about CrossFit?
Mostly I enjoy the community of CrossFit, everything from open gym to the fund raisers to the get togethers. Love how everyone comes together to support each other in the gym and out.”
6. What is your favorite workout?
“Favorite workout …just about anything that uses the legs, deadlifts, and back squats. Not to fond of anything over head, maybe one day I can lock out my elbow and overhead squats won’t be so traumatic to me.”
7. What is your greatest accomplishment?
“Seeing results at first made me stay. Now I am doing things I never thought I could do. I ran a 5K in March and can deadlift 295# (that still amazes me). Mostly my self confidence has really improved.”
And Lastly…
“I was diagnosed with arthritis about 35 years ago, a very early age to have arthritis. I have been told I will need an elbow and hip replacement. My arthritis has been so much better since doing CrossFit and eating better, it’s been truly amazing the difference in how I feel. I was on anti-inflammatory meds for years, and now I’m not having to currently take any medications.”
